Taxonomy
Tellinella was named by Mörch (1853) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant R]. It is extant. Its type is Tellina virgata.

It was reranked as Tellina (Tellinella) by Gardner (1947), Woodring (1982) and Coan et al. (2000).

It was assigned to Tellininae by Vokes (1980) and Stilwell and Zinsmeister (1992); to Tellina by Gardner (1947), Woodring (1982) and Coan et al. (2000); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
