Donax (Tentidonax) was named by Iredale (1930) [m. kosnik taxon no: 10759 Sepkoski's age data: T Plio-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112 m. kosnik taxon no: 8439]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Tentidonax by Vokes (1980) and Kosnik (2002).

It was assigned to Donax by Cox et al. (1969) and Lamprell and Whitehead (1992); to Donacidae by Vokes (1980) and Kosnik (2002); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
