Taxonomy
Petalaxis exiguus was named by Sando (1983). Its type specimen is USNM 162002B and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 3856-PC, James Ranch, which is in a Sakmarian carbonate limestone in the McCloud Formation of California.
