Taxonomy
Monophyllum cassum was named by Fedorowski (1987). Its type specimen is USNM 196767 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USNM702t, Gap Tank, Stockton Gap, Glass Mountains, which is in an Asselian marine limestone in the Neal Ranch Formation of Texas.
