Vepricardium was named by Iredale (1929) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cardiidae by Lamprell and Whitehead (1992); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cardiinae by Vokes (1980) and Schneider (2002).
