Taxonomy
Amotapus was named by Olsson (1928) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m]. Its type is Perna arbolensis. It is the type genus of Amotapidae.

It was assigned to Amotapidae by Olsson (1928); to Raetomyidae by Cox et al. (1969); and to Myoida by Sepkoski (2002).
