It was synonymized subjectively with Crocodilia by Zittel (1890); it was corrected as Loricati by Jaekel (1910); it was replaced with Crocodylia by Dundee (1989); it was reranked as the unranked clade Loricata by Fitzinger (1826) and Nesbitt (2011).

It was assigned to Monopnoa by Fitzinger (1826); to Rhizodonta by Fitzinger (1843); to Hyperosauria by Jaekel (1910); and to Paracrocodylomorpha by Nesbitt (2011).
