Anomia reticularis was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is the type species of Atrypa.
It was recombined as Atrypa reticularis by Dalman (1828), Meek (1877), Walcott (1884), Kirk and Amsden (1952), Boucot and Johnson (1968) and Bassett and Cocks (1974).
