Bayleoidea was named by Palmer (1928) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-m K Coni Sepkoski's reference number: 972]. Its type is Bayleoidea clivi.

It was assigned to Diceratidae by Palmer (1928); to Hippuritoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Requieniinae by Skelton (2013).
