Taxonomy
Ammonites proteus was named by d'Orbigny (1842) [Distribution: Middle Albian]. It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Falloticeras.

It was recombined as Mojsisoviczia proteus by Gebhardt (1983); it was recombined as Falloticeras proteus by Parona and Bonarelli (1897), Kennedy and Cooper (1977), Wright et al. (1996) and Kennedy and Klinger (2012).
