Lambdarina iota was named by Grant (1988). Its type specimen is USNM 424987 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USNM9599, Oros Eros, Hydra Island, which is in a Wuchiapingian marine packstone/wackestone in the Episkopi Formation of Greece.
