Taxonomy
Columbites crassicostatus was named by Guex et al. (2005) [Formerly JHS-286c-66]. Its type specimen is NMMNH P-62978 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is JJ1-78, Hot Springs Ridge (JJ-HSDE), Bear Lake, which is in a Spathian slope limestone in the Thaynes Formation of Idaho.
