Pseudoharpoceras idahoense was named by Smith (1932).

It was recombined as Pseudharpoceras idahoense by Smith (1932); it was recombined as Pseudarniotites idahoensis by Spath (1951); it was misspelled as Pseudharpoceras idahoense by Smith (1932); it was recombined as Hellenites idahoense by Kummel (1969), Guex et al. (2010) and Jenks et al. (2013).
