Taxonomy
Lecanites spitzbergensis was named by Frebold (1929). It is the type species of Svalbardiceras.

It was recombined as Svalbardiceras spitzbergensis by Frebold (1930), Spath (1934), Kummel (1969) and Guex et al. (2010).
