Taxonomy
Meekoceras (Prionolobus) jacksoni was named by Hyatt and Smith (1905). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Paris Canyon, Columbites beds, Bear Lake Valley, which is in a Spathian marine limestone in the Thaynes Formation of Idaho.

It was recombined as Meekoceras jacksoni by Diener (1915); it was recombined as Ophiceras jacksoni by Smith (1932); it was recombined as Nordophiceras jacksoni by Kummel (1969); it was synonymized subjectively with Bajarunia euomphala by Dagis and Ermakova (1988); it was recombined as Jeanbesseiceras jacksoni by Guex et al. (2010) and Jenks et al. (2013).
