Taxonomy
Chonetes novosemliaensis was named by Likharev (1939).

It was recombined as Paeckelmannia novozemliaensis by Kashirtsev (1959); it was recombined as Chonetina novozemliaensis by Ustritsky and Chernyak (1963); it was recombined as Tornquistia novosemliaensis by Kalashnikov (1981); it was recombined as Eolissochonetes novosemliaensis by Sarycheva (1977) and Kalashnikov (1993).
