Dasyphyllia brevicaulis was named by Felix (1915). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mota Talau River, which is in a Pliocene perireef or subreef limestone/marl in Indonesia.
It was recombined as Caulastrea brevicaulis by Kiessling (2009).
