Taxonomy
Australomya was named by Runnegar (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse P Leon-m Sepkoski's reference number: 108]. Its type is Australomya hillae.

It was assigned to Vacunellinae by Morris et al. (1991); to Megadesminae by Simóes et al. (1997) and Simões et al. (2000); and to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002).
