Taxonomy
Casterella was named by Mendes (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse P Guad-u]. Its type is Casterella gratiosa.

It was assigned to Megadesmidae by Cox et al. (1969); to Plesiocyprinellinae by Simóes et al. (1997); and to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002).
