Taxonomy
Chaenomya was named by Meek (1864) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc P Guad Sepkoski's reference number: 157]. It is the type genus of Chaenomyinae.

It was assigned to Grammysiidae by Hoare (1961); to Chaenomyinae by Morris et al. (1991); and to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002).
