Halonympha was named by Dall and Smith (1886) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 545]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cuspidariidae by Vokes (1980) and Lamprell and Healy (1998); to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Halonymphidae by Bouchet et al. (2010).
