Discodermia antiqua was named by Schrammen (1901). It is not extant. It is the type species of Phyllodermia, Phyllodermia (Phyllodermia).
It was recombined as Phyllodermia antiqua by Lagneau-Herenger (1967); it was recombined as Phyllodermia (Phyllodermia) antiqua by Finks et al. (2004).
