Taxonomy
Calyptraea costata was named by Say (1820). It is the type species of Dispotaea.

It was recombined as Crucibulum costatum by Martin (1904); it was recombined as Crucibulum costata by Ward (1998); it was recombined as Crucibulum (Dispotaea) costata by Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
