Osteomya was named by Moesch (1874) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar J Call]. It is not extant. Its type is Mya dilata.

It was assigned to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pholadomyidae by Vokes (1980), Aberhan (2004) and Scholz et al. (2008).
