Taxonomy
Murex zelandicus was named by Quoy and Gaimard (1834). It is extant. It is the type species of Poirieria, Poirieria (Poirieria).

It was recombined as Poirieria (Poirieria) zelandica by Vokes (1970); it was recombined as Poirieria zelandicus by Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
