Taxonomy
Plesiocyprinella was named by Holdhaus (1918) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 108]. It is the type genus of Plesiocyprinellinae.

It was assigned to Mactromyidae by Cox et al. (1969); to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Plesiocyprinellinae by Bouchet et al. (2010).
