Taxonomy
Germanonautilus johnstoni was named by Kummel (1953). Its type specimen is USNM 107088 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is South Canyon, New Pass Range, which is in an Illyrian deep-water siliciclastic in the Favret Formation of Nevada.
