Pteromya was named by Moore (1861) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Rhae J Hett-l Sepkoski's reference number: 715]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ceratomyidae by Marquez-Aliaga et al. (2010).
