Rhytimya was named by Ulrich (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-m O Ashg-l Sepkoski's reference number: 91]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Pholadomyidae by Vokes (1980); and to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002).
