Somareoides was named by Skwarko (1983) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn]. Its type is Permophorus hastatus.

It was assigned to Permophorinae by Skwarko (1983); to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Kalenteridae by Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
