Trigonulina was named by d'Orbigny (1946) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1248]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Verticordia (Trigonulina) by Dall (1886).

It was assigned to Verticordia by Dall (1886); to Verticordiidae by Jung (1996); and to Pholadomyoida by Sepkoski (2002).
