Chainodictyon mariae was named by Lavrentieva (1985). Its type specimen is PIN 613/c. 224 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is South Kashkara, Well 15/14, 890-918 m, which is in an Artinskian carbonate limestone in the Russian Federation.
