Taxonomy
Chonetes grandicosta was named by Waagen (1884). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Jabi, "Cephalopod Bed", Salt Range, which is in a Wuchiapingian marine limestone in the Chhidru Formation of Pakistan.

It was recombined as Chonetes (Dienerella) grandicosta by Reed (1944); it was recombined as Waagenites grandicostatus by Wardlaw (1977); it was recombined as Waagenites grandicosta by Lee and Gu (1980).
