Microdictyon was named by Bengston et al. (1981) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-l Cm lMid Sepkoski's reference number: 552,885,1006].

It was assigned to Lobopoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Eoconchariidae by Skovsted (2006); to Lobopodia by Bambach et al. (2007); and to Onychophora by Smith and Ortega-Hernández (2014).
