Heteroaspis was named by Størmer (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l]. It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Diploaspis by Dunlop et al. (2001).

It was assigned to Chasmataspidida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Diploaspididae by Dunlop et al. (2020).
