Belinurus
Taxonomy
Belinurus was named by Bronn (1839) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife C Mosc-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1066. Sometimes attributed to König (1820), but the second and third centuries of Icones Fossilium Sectiles were never published prior to König's death in 1851 (and perhaps never). Also attributed to Pictet (1846), but the genus was made available in 1839 when a valid species, Limulus trilobitoides, was assigned to it. Authorship of this anonymous note is uncertain, but presumably was by Bronn as editor of the journal.]. Its type is Limulus trilobitoides. It is the type genus of Bellinuridae.
It was corrected as Bellinurus by Sepkoski (2002), Dunlop et al. (2013) and Dunlop et al. (2020).
It was assigned to Xiphosurida by Dix and Pringle (1930) and Sepkoski (2002); to Bellinuridae by Dunlop et al. (2013); and to Belinuridae by Størmer (1955), Bergström (1975), Lamsdell (2020), Dunlop et al. (2020) and Lamsdell and Clapham (2021).
It was corrected as Bellinurus by Sepkoski (2002), Dunlop et al. (2013) and Dunlop et al. (2020).
