Gemmula hindsiana was named by Berry (1958). It is extant. It is the type species of Pleurotoma (Gemmula).

Synonyms
  • Pleurotoma gemmata was named by Reeve (1843) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Indo-Pacific.]. It is not a trace fossil.

    It was recombined as Pleurotoma (Gemmula) gemmata by Weinkauff (1875); it was replaced with Gemmula hindsiana by Harzhauser et al. (2009).
