Limulus
Taxonomy
Limulus was named by Muller (1785) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr m R Sepkoski's reference number: 359]. It is extant. Its type is Monoculus polyphemus. It is the type genus of Limulacea, Limulidae, Limulinae.
It was assigned to Xiphosurida by Sepkoski (2002) and Krzemiński et al. (2010); to Limulidae by Leach (1819), Bergström (1975), Lamsdell (2016), Lamsdell (2020) and Dunlop et al. (2020); and to Limulinae by Størmer (1955), Dunlop et al. (2012) and Bicknell et al. (2021).
