Psammolimulus was named by Lange (1923) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Psammolimulus gottingensis.
It was assigned to Mesolimulidae by Størmer (1952) and Størmer (1955); to Xiphosurida by Sepkoski (2002); to Limulidae by Bergström (1975) and Dunlop et al. (2020); and to Austrolimulidae by Lamsdell (2016) and Lamsdell (2020).
