Pseudoniscus was named by Nieszkowski (1859) [Sepkoski's age data: S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Pseudoniscidae.
It was assigned to Pseudoniscidae by Størmer (1955) and Bergström (1975); to Xiphosurida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Planaterga by Lamsdell (2013) and Dunlop et al. (2020).
