Parastylonurus was named by Kjellesvig-Waering (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 360]. It is not extant. Its type is Stylonurus ornatus. It is the type genus of Parastylonuridae.
It was assigned to Eurypterida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Parastylonuridae by Dunlop et al. (2013) and Dunlop et al. (2020).
