Taxonomy
Strobilopterus was named by Ruedemann (1935) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg-u Sepkoski's reference number: 360]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Strobilopteridae.

It was assigned to Dolichopteridae by Størmer (1955); to Eurypterida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Strobilopteridae by Dunlop et al. (2020).
