Taxonomy
Palaeoscorpius was named by Lehmann (1944) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 656]. Its type is Palaeoscorpius devonicus.

It was assigned to Palaeoscorpiidae by Kjellesvig-Waering (1986); to Scorpionida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Palaeoscorpionidae by Petrunkevitch (1953) and Dunlop et al. (2013).
