Fuxianhuia was named by Hou (1987) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u Sepkoski's reference number: 780]. It is not extant. Its type is Fuxianhuia protensa.
It was assigned to Fuxianhuiidae by Hou and Bergström (1997); to Merostomoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Arthropoda by Bambach et al. (2007).
