Kuamaia was named by Hou (1987) [Sepkoski's age data: ]. It is not extant. Its type is Kuamaia lata.
It was assigned to Merostomoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Arthropoda by Bambach et al. (2007); and to Conciliterga by Paterson et al. (2012) and Lerosey-Aubril et al. (2017).
