Taxonomy
Murex scalaroides was named by Blainville (1826) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Recent; Caribbean and Mediterranean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Aspella scalarioides by Maury (1917); it was recombined as Dermomurex (Dermomurex) scalaroides by Landau et al. (2007).
