Cyclus was named by de Koninck (1841) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-l P l Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Cyclidae.

It was assigned to Cyclidae by Goldring (1967) and Glaessner (1969); and to Cyclida by Sepkoski (2002).
