Taxonomy
Halicyne was named by von Meyer (1844) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc-u Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. Its type is Limulus agnotus. It is the type genus of Halicynidae.

It was assigned to Cyclida by Sepkoski (2002); to Cyclidae by Glaessner (1969) and Schweigert (2007); and to Halicynidae by Gall (1971) and Schweitzer et al. (2020).
