Meristosoma was named by Robison and Wiley (1995) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm mMid-l Cm uMid-m]. It is not extant. Its type is Meristosoma paradoxum.

It was assigned to Arthropoda by Sepkoski (2002) and Pates et al. (2021).
