Nektaspida was named by Raymond (1920). It was considered monophyletic by Ortega-Hernandez et al. (2013).

It was reranked as the class Nectaspidida by Peng et al. (2012); it was reranked as the class Nektaspidida by Lerosey-Aubril et al. (2017); it was reranked as the class Nektaspida by Mayers et al. (2019); it was corrected as Nektaspidida by Lerosey-Aubril et al. (2020).

It was assigned to Arthropoda by Budd (1999) and Peng et al. (2012); to Trilobitomorpha by Ortega-Hernandez et al. (2013); to Artiopoda by Lerosey-Aubril et al. (2017); and to Trilobitomorpha by Mayers et al. (2019) and Lerosey-Aubril et al. (2020).
